Profile Information

Hometown:
Illinois or Missouri depending on the time of the year
About Me:
I'm relatively new to riding. I've only been riding for about 4 years, but I love it. I don't own my own horse, but I have yet to get on a school horse that I don't like. It does make it a little difficult to do the things I want to do, but I'll make due with what I have. Not like there's any other choice, I guess. Most recently, I've been riding a horse named Kentucky. He was originally trained western, but he loves to jump. He's a total mutt. If I remember correctly, he's got some thoroughbred, pony, and saddlebred in him. We're both starting to get involved in showing for the first time. It's interesting to have a horse that is as much a rookie at showing as I am, but he's awesome and he really does try with his whole heart. I'm a freshman this year at the University of Missouri, and I love it here. I'm majoring in occupational therapy, which is incredible, and hopefully one day I'll be able to be an occupational therapist by day and a therapeutic horseback riding instructor by night or during the weekends. Overall, I love to ride, hang out at the barn, swim, go bowling, and just being with friends, especially barn friends, who are awesome.

So glad to be back!

So I went home for the summer, but now I'm back in Columbia, and I couldn't be happier. It feels like I never left. I had my first lesson yesterday, and it was great just to get back in the saddle. I rode Fancy, who was really good- actually, a bit more go-y than I remember, but still a sweetheart.

I had a lot of issues this summer, at home, when I was attempting to get in some lessons. The instructor I wanted to ride with was asked to leave her barn and then decided to retire from the horse in… Continue

Wednesday Lesson 4.23

Today's lesson was awesome! I was so happy! I love it when it's like that after a lesson!

Anyways, we warmed up, doing flat stuff outside. It was really warm, but you could see the storm clouds and the lightning in the distance. We walked, trotted, and cantered in both directions. There were no problems with Kentucky trying to run out of the arena, except for once, when Risto did it and he was thinking he might be able to get away with it- well, let's just say, that didn't happen. He was also d… Continue

Recent Issues

Kentucky and I have been having pretty big problems lately. About a month ago we went to a show and everything was fine. I think that's why all this is frustrating me so much.

About three weeks ago when I was ridig during my lesson, he was being a complete jerk. The problem was that I wasn't sure if it was me, or him being a jerk, or him being sore. He started to kick out every time I would ask for any sort of a transition when we were about half way through the lesson. It all started when he w… Continue

Wednesday Ride

My lesson last night was incredible. It was such a good feeling. I had been having a mediocre day, and it was awesome to go to the barn and just chill and ride. We rode in the outdoor, because it was in better condition and is bigger (more like the one at the show). It was just a good night.

I rode Kentucky, and Laura and I were getting ready for the show. So we worked on making sure our heels were down, cantering for more than once around the arena, and doing whole courses at a time. It was ki… Continue

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!!!

"Would you ever be interested in showing?"

I never thought I would hear these words come out of someone's mouth, directed at me... but they did! Tonight in the middle of my riding lesson on Kentucky, my trainer, Kris, asked if I would be interested in going to a little local show on him. She said that he needed the experience and that I worked well with him. She said it would also give me some experience. So on March 8th... we're going to be going to the William Woods Winter Fun Show doing 2 hu… Continue

Thanks so much! That's Comme Il Faut or Commi for short :) He's a sweetheart, love him to bits! He is difficult to ride as he gets sulky in the arena, but when he wants to work, he goes beautifully! Luckily had a camera on one of those occasions! :)
But he really is like a giant teddybear. He'll sometimes just stand with me and nibble my hair.
Oh and I always think he looks like a woman in high heels! Heehee, especially in that picture ;)
