Show My Pony

Social Network for Riders, Horses, and Ponies

When I jump, I have a steady leg underneath me and my heels stay down. But I tend to sort of go foward too much. It's not that i fall foward, but its almost like i throw myself foward too much. My trainer says to almost let the horse come up to me when he jumps instead of going down to him. This definitely, works but i was wondering if any one had any tricks or excersizes i could do just to help me a tad more. Thanks so much for the help!

This is one thing my trainer taught me:

get in your half seat when cantering towards a jump, and shorten your reins so your hands are IN FRONT of you on the horses neck already. That way when you are going over the jump you barely even half to move, just tilt forward slightly. Make sure your lower back is tucked in (try to stick out your butt as far as it can go lol) that will make you get lower on the horses neck without looking like your standing or falling forward.

i agree with allie! just shorten your reins and then when you do your 2 point, dont go any farther then your hands are! when your coming toward the jump, just sit back and count your strides! when he hits the jump, get into 2 point and be close to your hands but not too close to them!

The two hints my trainer all ways gives me to think about on the way up to a fence is to wait for it to come to you, and let the horse jump the jump not you and that should help you stay strong in your postition :)
